Ho Poly Gets Chinese Centre

Students, residents and businessmen within the West African sub-region who want to venture into the Chinese market can now learn about the Asian country in Ghana.

This opportunity has been made possible through the establishment of the Inter-Cultural Chinese Language Centre at the Ho Polytechnic in Ho, the Volta regional capital.

The centre was established through the partnership between the Ho Polytechnic and Step Education Limited in China and Loud Voice in Aid Education, China.

The centre, first of its kind among polytechnics in Ghana and for that matter West Africa, hopes to become the leading Ghana-Chinese inter-cultural learning centre within the sub-region.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the centre, the Rector of the Ho Polytechnic, Prof Emmanuel Kojo Sakyi, disclosed that the centre was established for learning the Chinese language as well as for collaboration and learning in the areas of education, technology, science and social interaction.

He was hopeful that students, lecturers, residents and the general public both in Ghana and beyond, especially other West African countries would take advantage of the centre.

The Dean of International Studies of Ho Polytechnic, Esther Theresa Appaw Agbola, said the establishment of the centre is part of positioning Ho Polytechnic as an international player in tertiary education.

Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Francis Ganyaglo, who opened the centre, disclosed that the establishment of the centre comes with a lot of economic gains, especially for traders and other businessmen.

Mr Zhou Youbing, a consular from the Chinese Embassy, commended the Ho Polytechnic for welcoming such a partnership.

He was hopeful that the centre would be the beginning of many partnerships and mutual benefits between the polytechnic and other institutions in China and between the two countries.
