The Gushegu District Assembly has elected a new presiding member after a long wait.
This follows the election of Mohammed Issah by assembly members at a special meeting.
Issah who in earlier meetings failed to get the required votes to be confirmed as the presiding officer polled 31 votes out of 34 representing 81.4% of the total votes cast.
The Gushegu District Assembly is the only district in the Northern Region without a presiding member to facilitate the meeting of the assembly.
This has made the assembly unable to form various working committees to facilitate development in the area since the election of Assembly members in last year’s nationwide district assembly elections.
Addressing members of the Assembly before the voting exercise, District Chief Executive, Alhaji Alhassan Fuseini, appealed to members to put the interest of the Assembly first.
He said the inability of the assembly to elect a presiding member was preventing the assemblies from taking major decisions for the facilitation of development in the District.
Issah in his acceptance speech pledged to conduct himself in line with the laid down rules of the Assembly in other for the house to take best decision that would bring change to the inhabitants of the District.
