In a bid to involve citizens of the country in the Parliamentary Democratic governance process, the Government Assurances Committee of Parliament good has re-launched its digital platform ;www.assurances.gov.gh dubbed “connecting Citizens to Parliament”.

Chairman of the Government Assurances Committee, Hon Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, said the re-launched of the platform was necessitated as a result its re-structuring to now reach more citizens.

The project which started last year on a pilot base with initial funding from STAR-Ghana is now receiving technical and financial support from the Open Society Initiative for West Africa OSIWA, a civil society organization.

According to Hon Bedrah, the project will bring together stakeholders such as Members of Parliament, government officials, ordinary citizens, Civil Society Organisations, and the media on a single digital platform for fruitful deliberations on how collectively democracy can help to advance the nation`s development agenda through effective feedbacks on all available media including social media.

The initiative would help Committee of Government Assurances to effectively undertake its mandate of monitoring all assurances and promises made by the executive arm of government on the floor of parliament.

The “Connecting Citizens to Parliament” project is set to boost the capacity of the Committee on one hand and citizens on the other hand by increasing and closing feedback loops via SMS web-platform, social media among others.

The project is in collaboration with Penplusbytes with support from the OSIWA.
