GOIL Honours Freddie Blay

Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) has honoured its former Board Chairman, Freddie Blay, for his hard work and dedicated service during his tenure.

The former Board Chair of the state-owned oil company was presented with a citation at his Western Publications Limited Office in Accra on Friday as a sign of recognition for his stewardship.

‘This citation is presented to you in appreciation of certain key accomplishments and decisions taken by the board during your tenure as the chairman,’ an excerpt from the citation presented to the veteran politician reads.

‘Notable among these was: it was under your leadership that the decision to take GOIL onto the stock market by listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange was taken and implemented in 2007,’ the citation states.

It added, ‘This listing has compelled GOIL to operate professionally, continually seeking and emulating best practices everywhere.’

Hon. Blay was first appointed as Board Member of GOIL in 2001. In 2005, he became the Board Chairman, spearheading major policy initiatives that transformed the company’s fortunes greatly.

And this was confirmed by the Managing Director of the oil company, A.K Patrick Akorli, who told DAILY GUIDE in an interview that he (Blay) took certain bold decisions which helped improve the company’s worth.

The GOIL delegation which presented the citation to Hon. Freddie Blay included Prof. William Asomaning, Board Chairman; Mr. Akorli; Rosemond Awotwi-Frimpong, Corporate Affairs Manager; Zyril Opon, Head of Administration and Human Resource and Maureen Amma Owoo, Senior Corporate Affairs Executive.

Hon. Blay commended the management of GOIL for showing appreciation for his hard work and dedicated service towards the company.
