Ghana’s economic prospects dependent on engineering — expert

Chairman of the Ghana Consulting Engineers Association (GCEA), Ing. Kofi Asare-Yeboah says economic development and growth of Ghana and any country is heavily dependent on the country’s ability to design, construct and maintain a very efficient infrastructure.

Ing. Kofi Asare-Yeboah said this at the media launch of the FIDIC-GAMA 2015 Conference slated for Ghana in April next year.

FIDIC is the International Federation of Consulting Engineers founded in 1913 with the objective of promoting the interest of consulting engineering firms globally.

GAMA is the Group of Africa Member Associations of FIDIC.

In his welcome address, Ing. Kofi Asare-Yeboah hinted that that design, supervision of construction and the development of the maintenance regime of the infrastructure are essentially handled by country’s assembly of consulting engineering firms.

“With our emerging oil and gas industry, and the passing of the local content bill of the energy sector of our economy, the need to position the indigenous Consulting Engineering Industry to assume its proper place in the development of the country is long overdue”, he said.

The Special Guest of Honour of the launch, Ing. Kwesi Abbey Sam, urged Engineers in the country to deliver quality design, construction and maintain their works to stand the test of time.

The FIDIC-GAMA 2015 Conference, which will bring together over 500 delegates from across Africa and the rest of the world, is under the theme; “Developing and Sustaining Africa’s Infrastructure: Promoting African Consulting Engineersing Partnership”.

The Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of FIDIC-GAMA 2015 Conference, Ing. Albert Ogyiri called on corporate bodies to partner with them from the 12th to 15th April, 2014 at the plush Movenpick Ambassador Hotel as FIDIC-GAMA connects the leading global players and partners in the infrastructure and industrial sector to create innovative Sustainable Solutions and Business Opportunities at the upcoming conference.

Present at the Media Launch included: Ing. Magnus Lincoln Quarshie, President of the Ghana Institution of Engineers; Ing. Kwabena Sarfo-Debrah, past Presidents of the Ghana Institution of Engineers and representatives from Engineering firms and members of the Ghana Consulting Engineers Association. A new logo for the upcoming event was officially unveiled by Ing. Kofi Asare-Yeboah.
