Ghana, Togo join forces to arrest 7 Denu jailbreakers

Security forces from Ghana  and Togo are collaborating to track down seven hardened criminals who broke jail at Denu in the Volta Region last week.

Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu South, Pascal Lamptey, told Joy News, photographs of the criminals have been given to Togolese security officials.

“Police have a database of all the people they arrest…so when this incident happened they quickly went there [Togo] and given them [photos] to the Togolese security authorities to assist. If it happens that they [criminals] crossed the border to Togo, then they  will assist us in arresting them”, he said.

He said the photographs of the jailbreakers have also been given to police officials in neighbouring towns like Dzodze as well as to Regional and Divisional Commands of the police.

Additionally, the MCE said, “we have their pictures posted on all the walls in the municipality to help us in getting information about the whereabouts and then to make sure we get them re-arrested”.

The 7 crime suspects, arrested for committing various offences, escaped last week Friday from the border town cells with two AK47 rifles and 50 rounds of ammunition.

They are said to have promised to return to town to kill some of the residents.

But Mr. Laptery has assured more security men have also been deployed to Denu to protect the residents from attacks.

He said security officials from the Volta Region and Accra SWAT team have been deployed in the area while night patrols have also been intensified.
