Ghana Standards Authority Holds Seminar For Importers And Exporters On The Ghana Conformity Assessment Programme (G-CAP) At Sunyani

The Ghana Standards Authority has organized a seminar for Importers and Exporters on the Ghana Conformity Assessment Programme (G-CAP) at Sunyani, capital of the Brong Ahafo Region.

The seminar was aimed to educate Ghanaians in general on dangers associated with the high risks goods, which found their way into the country.

Deputy Executive Director Of Ghana Standards Authority, Mr. Kofi Nagetey speaking at the seminar said, The Ghana Standards Authority has opted to implement the Ghana Product Conformity Assessment (G-CAP) Programme similar to the ones embraced by other countries such as Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Algeria,
Egypt, Syria, Saudi-Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Indonesia, and Russia, among other countries.

He said, The Ghana Conformity Assessment Programme (G-CAP) is a conformity assessment process used to verify that imported products are in conformity with the requirements of applicable Standards before being exported to a destination country.

“This process is aimed at ensuring that specific products imported into the Ghanaian market meet the requirements of the Technical Regulations and Standards set by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) and are of the required quality for health and safety of people and also protection of the environment.”

Mr. Kofi Nagetey added that, Product Conformity Assessment helps Trade Facilitation and protects the interests of traders; importers benefit from a faster customs clearance process because verification activities have been completed prior to shipment and exporters do not take the risk to have their goods rejected at the country of destination because of non-compliance with the requirements.

He therefore called on both Importers and Exporters to collaborate with the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to ensure that only quality products gain entry into the country as required by law.
