Rev. Dr. Paul Frimpong-Manso, the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana has admonished all political parties to engage in clean politics as the country prepares for the 2016 elections.

The admonition was contained in his annual Xmas message to the country. “The year 2016 is an election year for our country. I therefore take this opportunity to admonish all political parties and their followers to engage in clean political campaigns devoid of insults, personality attacks, and violence. Let us all do our best to guard the peace from God that our country has been noted for within the sub region” he said.

He appealed to Christians not to take their attention from the real reason for Xmas to what he described as the peripherals adding that “Christ indeed is the reason for the season, and without Him there would be no Christmas in the first place. “If indeed we are to make the occasion complete and meaningful we must make it a season of honest reflection on the cause for which Jesus was born and for which He sacrificed His life” he said pointing out that “this reflection should cause us to examine our lives, and draw us closer to the Saviour.”

To sacrifice, he said, is to give ourselves sacrificially, enter into the trenches with one another, restore broken relationships and deepen the bonds of friendship and family; “when we forgive one another, and give even to those who have wronged us, failed or disappointed us then we are honouring what God showed us in Christmas. We are honouring Christ, born in Bethlehem, murdered on the cross of Golgotha, who arose on the third day, ascended to heaven and took His rightful place at the right hand side of the Father.”

He urged all Christians to make the Xmas Christ-centered and to consider it a period for the expression of gratitude to God.
