Experts talk power on JOY FM’s ‘The Power Forum’

Your Super Station’s Power Forum will this Wednesday focus on the challenges facing the energy sector.

The program which takes place at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT will assemble players in the power generating sector.

Ghana’s power crisis is increasingly becoming chronic. Currently, every home in Ghana receives less than 12 hours of power from the

Electricity Company of Ghana. The inherent effect of this power crisis on industry, productivity, education, rising insecurity is undoubtedly

without precedent.
Many small-scale businesses and artisans such as hairdressers and barbers, dressmakers and tailors, carpenters, corn-millers and cold store operators have either had their businesses completely collapsed or incurred huge debts due to the lack of electricity supply. School kids have had to study under unbearable conditions due to unannounced power interruption.

Despite all these challenges, there appears to be no end in sight to this power crisis because power producers have indicated there is a

production deficit due to the lack of gas to power our plants.

The Ghana Grid Company Limited is currently shedding between 400megawatts and 600megawatts of electricity because there is no gas to power some of the country’s thermal plants. So what can we do to salvage this situation since we are yet to see any of the plethora of promises materialize?

The forum will bring together experts; Chief Executive of VRA, Kirk Coffie, Chief Executive of GRIDCO, William Amuna, CEO of CERNIT Energy, Eunice Biritwum and Power Minister, Dr. Kwabena Donkor.

Other analysts and advocates in the power sector; the Executive Director of ACEP, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Kwame Adadem a Solar Energy Advocate and Former Chief Executive of the VRA Dr. Charles  Wereko- Brobbey to dissect the crisis situation.

All are duly invited to this insightful forum which begins at 8am.
