Emphasis On Research-Based Decisions

Alhassan Andani, managing director of Stanbic Bank has admonished Muslim scholars, clerics and educationists to help solve the challenges faced Muslim communities with research-based decisions.

He said, there a lot of wealthy Muslims who are willing to help solve the challenges of the Muslim communities in the country, but he said, there are mostly no any formal or well defined solutions to guide such people.

He has therefore urged the Ghana Muslim Academy (GMA) which has membership of prominent researchers, scholars and professionals to take up the challenge to conduct a scientific research to bring the causes and solutions to the challenges and publish or make it available.

Speaking as the Guest speaker at 23rd Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Muslim Academy, Mr. Andani advised Muslim leaders of various organisations should take advantage of the and present concrete input into the long term national development plan which is currently at drafting stage.

Mr. Jamiu Shewu, President of GMA in his annual report counted a number of activities that took place within the year 2015 and amongst them was the collaboration with Marhaba Fm and Ghana Muslim Student Association to organize a special public forum under the theme, “Pre-empting Extremism in Ghana” with Dr. Rabiatu Armah as the speaker.

The annual vacation school, annual Ramadan lecture series among others also took place successfully.

However, touching on the challenges of the Academy in the year, he mentioned that inadequate funding was a major challenge thereby restricting the Academy from executing most of its planned activities for the year.

GMA interventionist programmes include; annual vacation school, annual Ramadan lectures, guidance and counselling seminars, da’wah seminars, relief services among others have impacted positively on general development of society, particularly the youth and the less-endowed over the years.

The GMA which was established in 1992 with a vision of being ‘A model international Islamic organization that promotes education and render humanitarian services. And with a mission to promote education in the Ghanaian society, especially in deprived communities aimed at empowering the youth intellectually, professionally, socially and morally.”

Today, GMA boast of young Muslim intellectuals and professionals from diverse academic and professional background. This includes medical doctors, diplomats, bankers, lecturers, teachers, engineers, Islamic scholars, journalists and entrepreneurs among others.
