ECG Gives Free Electricity To Esreso Residents For 2 Years

Residents of Esreso, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti region, have not paid electricity bills for well over two years.

Although state-owned power distributor, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), is aware of the situation, it insists the metres used in the area are not in their records hence their inability to bill the community, Ultimate FM’s website is reporting.

According to the report, the residents have persistently pushed the debt-riddled ECG to rectify the anomaly since they have been enjoying power for free, but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

They said they are willing to pay for the power, but the power distributor has shown disinterest.

The meters, according to, were given to the residents by former energy minister Dr Oteng Adjei as part of the rural electrification project.

Residents are therefore calling for the prosecution of officials of the ECG for deliberately causing financial loss to Ghana.
