Dr. S.K. Nuamah Consoles Fire Victims In Kwadaso

The Parliamentary candidate- elect of the New Patriotic Party in the Kwadaso constituency, Dr Samiu Kwadowo Nuamah has urged the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to provide relief items to the victims of recent fire disasters in the constituency. He has also made an urgent call to the Ghana National Fire Service to have a fully equipped fire station in the constituency.

Dr Nuamah, an energy expert at the University of Ghana and Executive Director of the Africa Institute of Energy and Sustainability (AIES), made these calls when he paid a visit to commiserate with the victims of three recent fire accidents in the constituency

Over the last few months, the constituency has experienced three major fire incidents resulting in the loss of lives and property worth millions of cedis. These include the blaze at a home in Kokode, a suburb in the constituency, which resulted in the gruesome burning to death of two children which shocked the entire country. The most recent one saw the burning to ashes of a twelve room house in the Kwadaso township.

The common factors in these incidents have been the utter helplessness of the victims during the incidents and the almost complete absence of emergency services and the lack of relief items from the authorities, especially NADMO.

“Surely the people of this constituency deserve better than what they are getting from this government”, said Dr Nuamah.” It is highly unfortunate that the constituency, one of the most densely populated places in Ghana cannot even boast of a single fire station in any of its 15 towns. To most inhabitants the Fire Service doesn’t even exist. They can only look on helplessly whilst their property and loved ones are reduced to char and ashes during a fire incident, And after that, they are on their own. No NADMO, NO Assembly [KMA]. That is not right”

He consequently assured the victims that he would use his good office, when elected, to push for the provision of a fire station in the constituency.

The victims thanked the Dr. Nuamah and his entourage for their sympathies and prayed for his wellbeing and the fulfilment of his vision for the constituency. The crowd which had gathered upon hearing of the presence of the prospective parliamentarian also burst into a chorus of “Nana nie, Nuamah nie!” to show their appreciation.
