Don’t Politicize National Sanitation Day – Hon.Sam Atukwei Advised

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ga West Municipal Assembly Hon. Sam Atukwei Quaye, has entreated all and sundry in the country to embrace National sanitation Day, as a national duty call and participate in it fully.

This he said, Ghanaians should not politicize the move; but rather buy into it in order to achieve a desired result.

Hon. Sam Quaye, made this remark in an interview with Modern Ghana when he led a clean -up exercise held in the district to mark the national sanitation day.

He expressed satisfaction about the number of residents poured out to clean their surroundings. This he said when this exercise continues unabated, all diseases and health hazards relating poor sanitation would come to an end in the country.

However, he appealed to all and sundry in the country to develop positive characters toward sanitation by avoiding indiscriminate dumping of waste in open places.

He also commended the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for instituting the National Sanitation Day for the first Saturday of every month.

The clean up exercise was held in collaboration with a group called Olympic Stadium Neighborhood Association based in Amasaman.

According to the Chairman of the association Mr. John Bekoh, their aim is to come together as team and tidy up their surroundings in order to keep the city clean and also avoid diseases relating to poor sanitation.

He said as an association, they will endeavour to get all residents on board to help champion the cause.
