Carpenter Defiles Girl With GH¢1

A carpenter, who allegedly defiled the 11-year-old daughter of his friend under the pretext of giving her GH¢1, has been put before an Accra Circuit Court.

The accused person, Joseph Mensah was arraigned before a court, presided over by Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku and charged with defilement.

The accused person, who has been remanded into police custody, denied any wrongdoing.

Narrating events leading to the arrest of the accused, the prosecutor Inspector Judith Asante stated that the complainant is a driver while the accused person is a carpenter, adding that they are friends who live in the same vicinity at Mallam, a suburb of Accra.

She stated on October 15, 2015, the complainant’s wife asked her to buy corn dough and while on her way the accused saw the victim and called her to come for the GH¢1 she demanded the previous week.

The police officer said when the victim approached the accused, he lured him into his room, covered her mouth and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

She stated that after the act he warned her not tell anyone about her ordeal or else she would die.

The prosecuting officer said an informant, who saw the carpenter lure the victim into his room, realized that the girl could not walk properly and informed the victim’s parents about the incident.

Explaining further, she said the police issued a form to the victim to attend the hospital for medical examination and treatment.

The accused person was arrested and arraigned before court after police investigations.
