Businessman Steals Friend’s Car

A businessman has been put before an Accra Circuit Court accused of stealing his friend’s Toyota Corolla saloon car under the pretext of selling it for him.

The suspect Kareem Alhassan Rasheed was put in an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Yaw Atta Sampong and charged with stealing. He pleaded not guilty and has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢10,000 with two sureties to appear on September 29, 2015.

Narrating events leading to the arrest of the suspect, the prosecuting officer, Chief Inspector W. Nyadikor told the court that the complainant is a banker and a resident of Mamprobi while the accused person is a businessman and a resident of Sukura.

He said the complainant is a friend of the accused person and that on December 20, 2011, the complainant who was then living in the same vicinity with the accused person discussed with him that he wanted to sell his Toyota Corolla saloon car at the price of GH¢8,000.

The police officer stated that the suspect promised to assist his friend to sell the car as he knew someone who was interested in buying a Toyota Corolla.

He said the businessman consequently collected the car together with its documents purportedly to sell it for the banker but dishonestly appropriated the money from the sale of the vehicle.

The prosecuting officer further stated that all attempts to get the suspect to account for the money failed so the banker lodged a complaint with the police and the suspect was arrested in his hide-out in January 2014.

He said the accused person admitted the offence in his cautioned statement but failed to refund the money to his friend and was arraigned after police concluded investigations.
