Bloodbath Looms In Donkokrom

The chiefs and people of Edavokpe and its surrounding areas, suburbs of Donkokrom, the district capital of Afram Plains North in the Eastern Region, have called on the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General to cause the arrest of Fulanis who have allegedly murdered a son of the land.

According to Nana Otu Mishirawa, the chief of Edavokpe, the District Chief Executive of the area, Windham Emil Afram, and the Police Commander of Tease in Afram Plains South, Superintendent Isaac Obeng Dompreh, who is handling the case, have taken bribes from Fulani leaders and so whenever there is a murder incident in the area, the police fail to arrest the suspects involved.

A 35-year-old Fulani herdsman, Gabari Humaru, who is among a gang of four, was arrested on 14thSeptember, 2015 for allegedly killing one Atsu Gogah, a 25-year-old man, after he attempted to sack the Fulanis and their cattle from his farm.

The suspects, according to reports, also inflicted serious cutlass wounds on the wife of the deceased, Baby Goka, when she tried to raise an alarm.

However, after arresting the first suspect, the police failed to arrest the others.

Due to this, the residents of Edavokpe are threatening reprisal attacks if nothing is done about the issue.

Nana Otu gave the police a one-week ultimatum to take action or they would take the law into their hands and wage war against the Fulanis.

‘This is not the first time a Fulani has killed someone here but this time we will also teach them a lesson if they don’t move from the town,’ he threatened.

Some of the other chiefs, who echoed same sentiments, added that they would give the Fulani herdsmen a taste of their own medicine if justice was not served.

Last Thursday when DAILY GUIDE contacted the Tease Police Commander, Supt Isaac Obeng Dompreh, he said the case was under investigation and so he couldn’t comment on it.
