Blazing Trails Changing Lives In Ghana

The British Council In Collaboration With Barclays Bank Has Been Providing Essential Life Skills Training To Recent Graduates And Unemployed Youth To Land Their Dream Jobs And Also Set Up Their Own Businesses.

As part of the on-going support to beneficiaries, the two organisations have signed an MOU with African Business for Developing Education (ABCDE) and Business Factory Initiative for Africa (BUFIA) primarily to provide beneficiaries with a three month internship/mentorship program.

The Blazing trails initiative which targets the unemployed youth, school leavers, existing entrepreneurs, underemployed and unemployed graduates has since its inception trained about five thousand (5000) youth in seven regions across the country.

The programme has recorded remarkable success as about 31.04% of trainees have landed lucrative jobs after the training whereas entrepreneurs also gain insight, network and funding opportunities to further their dreams.

The British council is taking a step further to achieve the aims of the Blazing trails programme thus; to identify entrepreneurial and employable skills and qualities needed to achieve goals and develop them by providing trainees with a three month mentorship, evaluation and possible employment opportunity with multinational companies.

The internship programme seeks to place about eighty (80) trainees who were selected based on their performance during the training programme in world class companies to provide them the opportunity to implement the knowledge acquired in the classroom to solve day to day business problems whiles learning the ethos of the corporate world.

This remarkable opportunity surely has elicited enormous excitement amongst shortlisted applicants who are optimistic this opportunity is sure to change their employment status and consequently their socio economic conditions.

At a final induction ceremony at the British Council some of the interns expressed gratitude to the British council and title sponsor – Barclays Bank for the amazing opportunity given them and promised to project the values imbed in them through the Blazing trails programme.
