Be guided by the national interest

Kumasi, Dec. 17, GNA – The Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council, Mr. Francis Azumah, has asked journalists to be always guided by the national interest in the performance of their duties.

He asked them to avoid anything likely to stoke needless tension or plunge the nation into turmoil.

He was speaking at a meeting held with the media in Kumasi to discuss ways to sustain the peace ahead of the next year’s presidential and parliamentary elections.

The programme was organized by the Ashanti Regional Peace Council and provided the platform to share experiences from the 2012 polls and the lessons learnt.

Mr. Azumah advised against sensationalism, biased, inaccurate and one-sided stories in pursuit of parochial and self-serving political agenda.

They should be factual in their reports and uphold high standards of professionalism.

Professor Seth Opuni-Asiamah, Regional Chairman of the Council, called on all stakeholders to work together to keep the country’s democracy on the path growth.

Everybody should get their acts right and accept to play by rules of the political game, he added.
