A baby girl believed to be 8-months-old has been dumped in front of a house at Kwashieman Hong Kong, near Kata Hostel in Accra.
The baby, which was malnourished, was discovered last Wednesday morning.
Reports said it was dumped at the area around 11pm Tuesday evening.
She was taken to the Police Hospital for treatment and handed over to the Social Welfare Department for proper care.
The police have appealed to the public to help identify the parents of the baby.
Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE, ASP Effia Tengey, the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, said police suspect the mother deliberately abandoned the baby and bolted away.
She said the cry of the child attracted some good Samaritans who discovered it in a piece of wax print in front of a house owned by a middle aged woman.
The Good Samaritan told the police that before she went to bed last Tuesday night around 11pm, she saw something in front of her house together with garbage and therefore mistook it for waste.
She said at about 5am on Wednesday morning, while still in bed, members of her household heard the cry of a baby which drew her attention.
ASP Tengey said the woman said when they removed the piece of cloth, they found out that the child was a girl and immediately reported the matter to the police.
The baby was later taken to Police Hospital where a thorough examination was carried out.
Reports concluded that apart from being a little malnourished, she was medically fit.
The Accra Regional PRO said efforts were being made to get the parents of the child arrested.
She therefore appealed to the public to offer information that could help trace the parents.
