Audio: Payment delays not real NHIA problem-Health Committee

Chairman of the health committee of parliament, Joseph Yileh Chireh has warned that the non-payment of claims to service providers under the national health insurance scheme will not go away unless funding challenges are addressed.

There’s always a financing gap, he said, and that gap needs to be closed. If you don’t close it, no matter what you do, you’ll always have a problem.

According to him, financial contributions to the scheme which come from the consolidated fund and other sources are not enough to meet the obligations of the National Health Insurance Authority due to increase in number of subscribers and high cost of medical treatment.

Mr. Yileh Chireh therefore called for an amendment to the VAT law to reflect in increased funding to the scheme.
