Atuguba Causes Stampede In Kumasi

THE PREMISES of the Court of Appeal in Kumasi was almost filled to capacity when news went round town that the President of the Nine Supreme Court Judges who sat on the historic Presidential Petition, Justice William Atuguba, was in Kumasi.

Anxious residents thronged the Court of Appeal at Adum to catch the glimpse of the man. The massing up of the crowd, The Chronicle gathered, compelled Justice Atuguba to leave the place quietly.

The Supreme Court Judge, according to confidants, is naturally a very calm and composed man and could not accommodate the attention on him.

According to information, the experienced Judge was driven to Kumasi Airport to catch a flight to Accra.

The spontaneous swelling up of the crowd followed the announcement of his arrival by a local radio station, Kessben FM, during their flagship BREAKING NEWS programme, hosted by Ali Baba and Eric K. Baah Confidence.

It is not clear the reason behind the anxiety of residents in the city who thronged the Court of Appeal premises, but one thing is for sure that most residents in the Garden City were not happy with the outcome of the Supreme Court petition, whose judgment was read by Justice Atuguba on August 29 last year.

Justice Autguba became the talk of the town for almost eight months as he and his colleagues sat through the Presidential petition case, which was brought before them by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The President of the Nine Supreme Court Judges was in the Garden City to officially chair a programme involving the presentation of furniture Equipment by the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) to the Legal Aid Scheme.
