Asante-Akim South votes to retain PM

Juaso (Ash), Nov. 02, GNA – The 69-member Asante-Akim South District Assembly has voted to retain Mr. John Kennedy Agbesi as its Presiding Member (PM).

He polled 47 votes to beat off the challenge by Albert Nana Osei Asiamah, who secured 19 votes in an election supervised by the District Electoral officer, Mrs. Alberta Mensah-Bonsu.

This came after a previous attempt by the assembly to elect the PM ended inconclusively as none of the two candidates could garner enough votes to cross the mandatory two-thirds majority threshold (45 votes).

Mr. Agbesi, a former PM, thanked the members and pledged to work with everybody to bring development to the people.

He called for unity and teamwork, saying, that was the path to travel to ensure smooth implementation of the assembly’s development agenda.

Mr. De-graft Fokuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), applauded the assembly for breaking the stalemate – clearing the way for the assembly to effectively function.

He said he had every reason to believe that they would all put their expertise at the disposal of the assembly, to enrich its deliberations and decisions.
