Aggrieved Man Seeks IGP’s Intervention

Fifty-year-old Edward Lawer has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, to help redress an assault and threat a case he reported to the Kasoa Police since 2008.

According to a petition written by Mr Lawer and copied to the IGP, the victim alleged that one Asafoatse Kwaku and Nii Djarto, aka Koforidua of Ngleshie Amanfro, brutally assaulted him and further threatened his life after taking over a land he bought from Nii Kwashie Gborlor family.

The victim said when the case was reported to the Kasoa Police in 2008, the police did not even call the perpetrators to book, thus leaving him to his fate.

He alleged that the two suspects again went to his house to demolish his building amidst shooting and threatening but when he ran to the Kasoa Police; they did not invite the suspects for questioning.

‘Until now, I cannot even go to my property as the two continue to threaten my life and that of my family.’

The aggrieved victim said, not satisfied with the way the Kasoa Police were handling the matter, he officially wrote to the then director general in-charge of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in March 2008 and when the CID boss again ordered the Kasoa Police to take the matter to court, they again brushed it off.

‘After several visits to the Kasoa Police Station with some witnesses in the case for a follow-up on the matter, I became fed up and stopped going there.’

Being aggrieved with what has happened, the victim said he wrote to the Attorney General’s Department and the Chief Justice’s office for advice but both institutions redirected him to the IGP for redress.

He is, therefore, calling on the IGP to reassign another investigator to handle the case as suspects involved continue to threaten his life even though his land has been taken.

‘I do not want to take matters lightly as similar cases such as mine, had led to the death of victims involved,’ he concluded.
