Aflao Notorious Armed Robber Gets 28 Years

THE AFLAO Circuit Court has sentenced Kwabla Bikor, a member of a notorious armed robbery gang to 28 years imprisonment.

The prosecutor Detective Sergeant Akemo Michael told the court presided over by Mr Ali Baba Abature that the 22 year old convict and his gang attacked a store operator at Adzabukope near Denu in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region, held her hostage and subjected her to severe beatings.

He said police got wind of the robbery attack and dispatched a patrol team of police and the military to the scene but the robbers absconded before the patrol team got there.

He said the robbers made away with six mobile phones and a lady’s handbag containing bunches of keys, an unspecified amount of money and a complementary card.

The prosecutor indicated that the victim sustained minor injuries and was treated and discharged at the Ketu South Municipal Hospital.

He narrated that after the attack, the robbers accosted a police cum military patrol team at Torkor in Aflao and engaged the team in a shootout.

Detective Akemo related that the robbers however, managed to escape but with gunshot wounds leaving behind three of the victim’s mobile phones.

According to him after the shootout, some the residents in the area volunteered to comb the area to search for the criminals who they believed could not go far due to the wounds they sustained in the shootings. The convict was fished out from his hideout with fresh gunshot wounds on his right leg and brought to the police.

The wounded robber was sent to the Ketu South Municipal Hospital for treatment and arraigned before court.

Bikor was charged with conspiracy to commit crime, robbery and attempted murder. He pleaded guilty to all the charges except the attempted murder and was sentenced accordingly.
