Activa donates to SWAG 2015 awards event

Activa International Insurance Company, has presented a cheque for GHs30,000 to Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) towards the successful organization of this year’s SWAG Awards Night.

The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Banquet Hall, State House in Accra.

Presenting the cheque to SWAG, the Managing Director of Activa International Insurance Company Ltd, Mr. Stephen Kyerematen said, “It is an important corporate objective for the Activa Group to engage in Corporate Social Responsibility activities every year in support of various causes deemed to be of great importance to the different societies and countries in which Activa Group companies operate.

Activa Group companies currently operate in Ghana, Cameroun, The Republic of Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Burkina Faso.

In pursuit of the efficient realization of our Group’s CSR objectives the holding company of the Group, Activa Finances established in 2014. The Activa Group Foundation and on whose Board I am privileged to serve as a Director. The focus of activities of Activa Group Foundation in 2014/2015 was the roll-out of Ebola-related projects in Liberia and Sierra Leone,” Mr. Kyerematen said.

“In Ghana Activa has continued to support organizations such as the Association of Ghana Industries and SWAG. We support SWAG because they play a very important role in promoting sports in Ghana by unearthing new sporting talents in Ghana and rewarding sportsmen and women who achieve excellence every year. SWAG’s efforts are very commendable since the exploits of our top and shining sportsmen and women on the international stage represent a powerful branding tool for our dear country Ghana. For example through the sterling efforts of Andre Ayew in Swansea City which earned him the Barclays Premier League Player of the month during his maiden season in UK League, Ghana’s name has gained prominence in the football world in the UK and elsewhere. The branding effect so achieved would have cost the Ghana Government a hefty sum of foreign currency to achieve same by engaging top flight international communication and branding agency to try and brand Ghana Sports,” he adds.

“For the third year running Activa International Insurance Company has decided to offer SWAG a Sponsorship package worth Ghana Cedis 30, 000.00 in support of the 2015 SWAG Awards event. In addition we offer free Personal Accident Insurance covers with a value of GHs1million sum insured each to the three top award winners this year. Hopefully the Sports industry will collaborate with insurance companies to offer insurance protection to our dear sportsmen and women in Ghana”, the ACTIVA boss revealed.

“Our gesture this year must be weighed against the background that in general the insurance industry in Ghana this year has had to endure great financial burdens in the settlement of claims emanating from the 3rd June floods in Accra. Activa alone had 25 claims claims lodged against it by its corporate clients affected by the floods. The estimate of losses suffered by one single group of companies is in the region of 4 million euros. Thanks to invaluable reinsurance arrangements put in place by Activa, we will honour all certified claims. At this juncture I wish to commend all our reinsurers including the Ghana Reinsurance company. I also wish to appeal to the general public be they individuals or corporates to take insurance very seriously since hazards and risks of damage and loss of human lives and properties are everyday occurrences as Ghanaians learnt in an unfortunate and hard way on June 3rd. Anyone with insurance protection against all manner of contingencies who suffer losses from natural and man-made disasters stand to gain from being indemnified by insurers once claims are determined to be sudden, unforeseen and fortuitous. Insurance covers are many and varied and include Life, casually, property specialist liabilities such as Directors and Officers, Professional Indemnity, Health insurance etc. We offer one of the best services possible in Ghana and we are at your service if you knock on our door”, his message concluded.

Receiving the cheque, the President of SWAG, Mr. Kwabena Yeboah expressed delight of the marriage between SWAG and ACTIVA International Insurance and assured ACTIVA of close collaboration between the two bodies to provide insurance facilities to the sporting public.

The meeting was attended by Maurice Quansah-Vice President of SWAG, William Ezah-General Secretary, Rosalind Amoh-Treasurer and Nii Maale-Adsei-Event Co-ordinator of SWAG. ACTIVA officials presented were Mrs. Genevieve Tachie-Regional Chief Finance Officer, Frank Yeboah-Internal Audit, Emmanuel Blankson-Operations Manager Corporate and Augustine Addo-Operational Manager, Retail & Agency.
