Accra police arrest riotous Sodom&Gomorrah residents

Police in Accra have arrested 20 residents of Sodom and Gomorrah who were part of a violent demonstrations Monday morning.

Hundreds of residents at the slum site today hit the streets in protest over the demolition of their structures.

They blocked some major roads and destroyed public, private properties and assaulted others

The demonstrators then went to the State House demanding to see the president but had the police to contend with.

Some of them were later arrested by the police.
Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afia Tenge confirmed the arrests to Joy News.

According to her, the arrested persons were part of a contingent of demonstrators who pelted the police and other innocent people with stones.

She said the demonstrators were causing mayhem at the time of the arrest.

“What they did was an eyesore and the police had to get them arrested,” she said.

The arrested persons will assist in investigations. Thousands of residents of Sodom and Gomorrah were displaced when the AMA demolished their homes.
