Account For National Sanitation Day—NPP Tells Gov’t

New Patriotic Party(NPP) executives in eastern region have challenged the government through the local government ministry to account to the people in the region and Ghanaians in general the cost involved in last Saturday’s national sanitation day exercise.

David Prah, the regional communications director of the npp speaking to the reporter stated clearly that sources closer to them indicates almost 3million cedis was spent on the exercise alone.

“Information reaching us indicate that government through Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and MMDCEs in the region spent over Ghc3m to entertain its supporters under the pretense of National Sanitation Day last Saturday”, Mr. Prah Alleged

“Food, drinks and killing of goats, drumming and dancing and partying took greater part of the day instead of the cleaning up the heap of refuse in towns and cities they contributed due to their refusal to pay Zoomlion to do their work” he added.

David Prah also revealed that almost all regional executives of the ruling party and some media men all lodged in hotels in Kwahu since Friday with a room costing not less than 1,500 cedis.

He said that money can be used to pay Zoomlion time, provide dust bins and containers at vantage areas instead of just wasting the money on just a one day exercise.

He also fingered government of using the exercise as a campaign tool for 2016 and called on Ghanaians to be careful of the selfish interest of the government.

Meanwhile many people who spoke to the reporter appealed to government for more dust bins and containers whiles others also suggested that Ghana as a country needs to revive our communal labour spirit by empowering traditional rulers as it was some years ago since they are much closer to the people.
