The Metro Mass Transit vehicle and the Kia truck at the accident scene

SEVERAL PASSENGERS sustained various degrees of injury Thursday on the Accra-Tema Motorway in an accident involving three vehicles including a Metro Mass Transit bus, which rammed into a KIA truck.

The injured persons were rushed to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra by an emergency ambulance stationed at the Accra end of the tollbooth, for prompt medical attention.

As at the time of filing this report, no death had been recorded, but many serious injuries were reported but police personnel were yet to arrive at the scene to ensure that sanity prevailed.

Passengers on board the bus – with registration number GR 6345-10 –  heading towards Accra, told DAILY GUIDE that the accident occurred at about 12:20 pm when the bus was reportedly having faulty windscreen wipers that could not rub off the rain that was falling on the windscreen as at that time of the accident.

The driver of the bus, whose name was not readily known, was said to be using his left hand to wipe the windscreen while driving on the motorway with the other hand on the steering wheel.

He was said to have lost control of the steering wheel thereby bumping into a stationary KIA truck, leading to the accident.

Not too long, a Toyota Hiace mini bus with registration number GT 5819-13, carrying passengers from Accra, accidentally rammed into the rear of the Metro Mass bus.

Passengers on both commercial vehicles sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to the hospital.

The accident led to heavy traffic jam on that stretch of the motorway.
