47 Suspected Criminals Nabbed

A SWOOP conducted by the Tema police has led to the arrest of 47 suspected criminals from various hideouts in the metropolis.

The police mentioned exhibits such as narcotic-laced alcohol, dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (wee), illegal casino slot machines supposedly used for illegal gaming and packs of male and female condoms suspected to have been used by some prostitutes.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Beatrice Z. Vib-Sanziri, who briefed the media during the launch of the Tema Regional ‘Operation Father Christmas’ last Friday, indicated that the exercise was said to be part of a special operation to raid the metropolis of criminals before the Christmas festivities.

She said the operation, which lasted for five hours, was organized by the command in the early hours of Thursday, November 19, 2015 in Ashaiman and its environs and was targeted at ghettos and areas notoriously known as hide-outs for criminals and brothels.

The suspects, she announced, would be screened and the exhibits retrieved would be forwarded to the Police Forensic Laboratory for testing after which persons found connected to any crime would be arraigned before court after investigations.

‘The swoop was part of a nationwide operation meant to clamp down on criminals, miscreants and deviants, organized by the Police Administration to mark the commencement of ‘Operation Father Christmas’ nationwide.’ according to her.
