WATCH-NIGHT services, which were organized by the various churches in Kumasi on New Year’s Eve, were dominated by the 2016 elections, as the various congregations prayed for peaceful polls for the country.

Virtually all the churches in the city reserved ample amounts of time to commit the country to God’s care so that Ghana’s peace would be sustained before, during and after the elections.

Usually, churches in the city use the December 31st watch-night services to pray for wealth and material things for their members, but the last New Year’s Eve services were exceptional.

The prayers of the various congregations were this time around more directed at the country’s peace – an indication that the citizenry love and cherish the enabling peaceful environment being experienced.

At the Calvary Charismatic Centre (CCC), Kojo Bonsu, the Kumasi mayor, was the first to set the ball rolling, by passionately asking the congregation for prayers for peaceful polls this year.

According to him, Ghana is the only country that the citizenry could refer to as home therefore the people, especially Christians, should always pray for God’s protection and blessing for mother Ghana.

Mr Kojo Bonsu stunned the huge congregation during his delivery as he began to pray in tongues, after which he admonished the people to be law abiding and play roles to ensure that lawlessness is relegated to the background.

Pastor Ransford Obeng, Head Pastor of CCC, preaching the sermon titled ‘But God,’ prophesied that God would always be available to protect His people from the evil plans of the devil, this year.

He then led the colossal congregation to pray for leaders of the country, Ghanaians in general and for Ghana to have peaceful elections.
