Residents of Windy Ridge, a suburb of Takoradi in the Western Region, were shocked yesterday when two ladies were burnt beyond recognition in two bungalows that were gutted by fire.

The names of the deceased were only given by the residents as Comfort and Theresa aged 18 and 20.

Their charred bodies have since been conveyed to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital mortuary by the Police.

Eyewitnesses said that the two ladies were house helps who lived with a woman and her family in one of the bungalows.

According to the residents, two staff members of the Regional Coordinating Council and their families occupy some of the bungalows in the area.

The inferno, according to the neighbours, was very intense at the apartment of an economic planning officer who is currently studying abroad.

The wife of the planning officer, a Chopbar operator and her five children escaped death after one of the children forcibly opened the door.

They are currently on admission at the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital with various degrees of injury.

ADFO Emmanuel Bonney, who is the Regional PRO for Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), narrated that as at about 3.00 am on Wednesday, his outfit got information that fire had gutted some bungalows at Windy Ridge.

“So we quickly mobilized a team who arrived at the scene few minutes after the incident and was able to prevent the fire from spreading to other apartments.”

ADFO Bonney indicated that as they were in the process of quenching the fire, they heard that two maids had been killed by the inferno in one of the rooms.
