The John A. Kufuor Foundation (JAK), a non- profit making organization, has named 14 students from various tertiary institutions across the country as the winners of the Kufuor Scholars Programme.

The announcement, which came on Tuesday, followed an intensive five-month recruitment process that began in September 2015 and ended with personal interviews by a three-member panel early this month.

Announcing the winners, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JAK Foundation, Prof. Baffour Agyeman-Duah, expressed satisfaction with the selection process which ensured gender balance, regional and institutional representation.

Prof. Agyeman-Duah said, “We are pleased with the integrity of the selection process and confident that the most deserving students have been selected for the awards.”

According to him, “We (JAK Foundation) received about 500 online applications, meticulously screened them down to 50 and, finally, interviewed 20.”

The Scholars Programme has the objective to prepare the youth for future leadership roles in all spheres of human endeavor.

Limited to second-year students, the scholars will be enrolled for three years, during which period they will be mentored, coached and provided with experiential activities for character formation and leadership skills development.

According to Prof. Agyeman-Duah, the programme has been designed to add value to the normal education students receive at their various institutions of learning.

He said, “There should be a sense of patriotism and love for country. Our future leaders must treasure the value of integrity, and that is what we seek to achieve.”

Meanwhile, the Foundation is expected to hold a special awards ceremony on February 9, 2016 to inaugurate the programme.

The chairman of the Foundation, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, according to a statement issued by his aide, Frank Agyekum, will give an address and present the awards.
